| Description: The inspiration for the original Redneck was an old GT stem called the "mallet" stem. It was a shafted stem that was front loading and really square...making it look like a mallet. The "Mallet" was a cool stem but it was made out of cheesy material and besides it had been out of production for years. People liked the front load because it brought your bars down a bit without having to run an upside down stem. Upside down stems made it really hard to get to your stem bolts
So S&M decided to make a high quality front loading stem that would lower your bars without having to flip a stem upside down. Of course the original Redneck was a shafted stem. S&M also used a new way to join the shaft to the body making it nearly indestructable. Right about this same time BMX took a page out of the Mountain Bike book and started switching over to clamp-on a.k.a. A-headset stems. Besides being one of the best things to ever happen to a BMX frame/fork, the A-headset allowed S&M to make the first front loading clamp-on BMX stem...and you guessed it, they made it RED. Eventually every company would have a Redneck copy...and now a Redneck LT copy. To stay ahead of the pack we continue to refine the Redneck LT, and do all the manufacturing right here in the USA from the best materials. S&M includes the finest hardware and include an Allen wrench. Plus when you buy an authentic Redneck LT you get covered by S&M's well known warranty policy. It may be a little more expensive than the imported copies, but it's worth it. |
